Description
The paper works were created during a scholarship from the Kunststiftung Sachsen-Anhalt (Arts Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt). Under the title "STARDUST: All things that glow in the dark become stars," Jisoo Jang initially began by observing the stars:
"Originally, she wanted to depict the celestial constellations as they appear – framed in a circle that guides the gaze like a silent telescope. But soon her gaze turned inward. All works in the series are a metaphor for the abyss. Just as one draws water from a very deep well, she drew the images from a deeply hidden place within herself. It's as if she is expressing her own universe. Just as the star constellation changes slightly every month, there are subtle variations within a similar structure in her works. In works consisting exclusively of overlapping brushstrokes and black surfaces, she sees the reflection of a universal human yearning for something permanent – for something beyond cognitive abilities."
